Lampascioni or wild onions or dog onion is recognized above all among the agri-food products of Puglia, Calabria and Basilicata. The bulbs, which can be harvested by hand in the countryside, can be enjoyed in many ways, they are preserved in oil.

They look like a small spring onion. Their shape is rather oval and pinkish in color. But, unlike onions, lampascioni have a fairly meaty texture. While their taste is rather bitter.

This plant, initially only wild, was already known to the Egyptians and Greeks. Especially for its diuretic and purifying properties. They grow spontaneously throughout the Mediterranean basin. Only in Puglia, however, there is also a particular local variety that is grown.
