In the morning we depart by ferry from Corfu to Igoumenitsa port.

After our arrival at the main port on the north-west Greek mainland, we drive for 45 minutes to the impressive ruins of the ancient city of Nikopolis for an organized two hour guiding tour. The foundation of Nikopolis was the capital city of the Roman province of Epirus Vetus. The city was founded in 29 BC by Caesar Augustus in commemoration of his victory in 31 BC over Antony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actium nearby. It was soon made the major city of the wider region of Epirus.

The archaeological site of Nikopolis, covering an area of 900 hectares (approximately 14,000 acres), contains within its boundaries all the key attributes that convey its Outstanding Universal Value.

We leave behind the ancient city and in only ten minutes drive we reach a wonderful beach that reaches 4 km of continuous sand! There, we have four hours free to enjoy a swim in the crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea. A few meters away lay a traditional tavern where an excellent lunch is prepared for us.

Afterwards, we drive back to Igoumenitsa to catch the ferry back to Corfu.
